What Is the New Deduction?
The OBBB, signed into law on July 4, 2025, introduced an above-the-line tax deduction for personal-use vehicles that meet certain requirements. Here’s what qualifies:
✅ New, financed, personal-use vehicles under 14,000 lbs
✅ Vehicle must be assembled in the U.S. (VIN must start with 1, 4, or 5)
✅ Applies to purchases made from 2025 through 2028
✅ Deduction applies even if you take the standard deduction
✅ Income limits apply: $100K (individual) / $200K (joint), with phase-outs above those levels
✅ Deduction is on loan interest only—not purchase price
✅ Maximum deduction: $10,000 per year
